Javelin droptank released, location unknown.
The 72 Squadron record book makes very brief mention of this incident and it is currently the only record of the incident I have located. It states that during a flight during November 1960 an unidentified 72 Squadron Javelin "lost" a ventral tank while on a flight. It does not state where the aircraft was when it fell away nor does it give the date.
I have found a Javelin droptank on the lower slopes of Great Whernside and this tank could be a contender for the date it arrived on the moorland. Please find see my information and photograph here. Rumours of one landing within the grounds of Wykeham Abbey have also been disused on internet forums.
