Halifax W7703 damaged in the air, landed at Pocklington airfield.
On the night of 22nd / 23rd June 1942 this 405 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb Emden and the aircraft took off from Pocklington at 23.44hrs. The crew released their bomb load on the target area at 01.31hrs from 18,000 feet. At 01.48hrs the aircraft was attacked by an enemy fighter which damaged the mid upper turret and also injured both wireless operators. The rear gunner returned fire. Despite the damage the aircraft landed at Pocklington at 03.19hrs.
