Hudson (T9275?) at Thornaby airfield.

On 4th June 1942 a No.6 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft sustained damage during a landing at Thornaby airfield. No further details are known. The unit records do not identify the aircraft but upon searching through the aircraft movement cards (AM Form 78) the likely aircraft is Hudson T9275 as this sustained a Cat.Ac/FA damage assessment on this date.

Hudson T9275 was built by Lockheed at California, USA and was delivered to the UK in May 1940. After assembly it was issued to 20 MU on 31st May 1941 and was then taken on charge by 269 Squadron on 29th June 1940. It was later transferred to No.6 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit on 17th August 1941. On 24th October 1941 it received a Cat.B assessment that saw a repair in works made by Cunliffe Owen. It was returned to No.6(C)OTU on 17th December 1941. On 22nd December 1941 it required another repair on site and it returned to No.6 (C)OTU on 11th April 1942. On 4th June 1942 a Cat.Ac/FA damage assessment was made for accident damage. It was repaired on site and returned to the unit on 4th September 1942. On 7th January 1943 it was transferred to No.1 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit. On 13th April 1943 it went to 10 MU for storage. On 17th June 1944 it was converted to a Ground Instructional Airframe 4822M for use by No.5 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit. It was struck off charge on 20th July 1945.
