On 17th January 1942 the crew of this 76 Squadron aircraft were undertaking a non-operational flight. As part of the training flight the aircraft landed at Dishforth at 11.30hrs but overshot and collided with a hut on the edge of the airfield. The aircraft was slightly damaged but there were no injuries to the crew.

Halifax R9379 was built to contract 692649/37 by Handley Page Ltd. at Radlett and was awaiting collection at the end of November 1941. It was initially allotted to 12 MU at Kirkbride on 3rd December 1941 and then allotted to 76 Squadron on 5th December 1941. On 6th December 1941 the aircraft was taken on charge by 76 Squadron at Middleton St.George. As a result of a mishap at Dishforth on 17th January 1942 Cat.Ac/FA damage was the initial assessment but this was later up-graded as Re-Cat.B and it was taken away for a repair in works by Handley Page. On 30th May 1942 on completion of the repair it was flown to 12 MU at Kirkbride. On 7th June 1942 it was taken on charge by 103 Conversion Flight at Elsham Wolds. Sadly on 1st August 1942 it was involved in a serious crash when it stalled at 400 feet on approach to land at Elsham Wolds and spun into a field sadly killing all twelve crew. Cat.E/FA damage was recorded on the paperwork and the aircraft was struck off charge on 1st August 1942.
