Wellington R1375 at Bircotes airfield.

On 12th June 1942 this 25 O.T.U. aircraft undershot on landing at 02.35hrs following a night navigation exercise. It crashed through a hedge and struck a pile of hot cinders which broke the aircraft's undercarriage. The wreckage then caught fire but those on board escaped serious injury.

Wellington Z1375 was built to contract 9924243/39 by Vickers Armstrong's Ltd. at Hawarden and was awaiting collection in December 1940. It was received by 12 MU on 19th December 1940 and was then taken on charge by 150 Squadron at Newton on 2nd February 1941. On 28th May 1941 it was slightly damaged in a flying accident to Cat.Ac/FA status. 150 Squadron moved to Snaith on 10th July 1941. On 18th August 1941 the aircraft was transferred to 25 O.T.U. at Finningley. As a result of this accident at Bircotes airfield on 12th June 1942 Cat.E2/FA Burnt damage was the assessment and it was written off. It was struck off charge on 18th June 1942.
