Anson N5373 damaged in the air, further damaged at Thornaby airfield.

On 12th January 1942 this 6 (C)OTU Anson caught fire in the air, the pilot managed to land the aircraft but the undercarriage then collapsed. The landing was probably made at Thornaby where the aircraft was based.

Pilot - F/O Wooll (Possibly F/O Gerald Ray Wooll).

Anson N5373 was built to contract 766119/38 by A.V.Roe & Co. Ltd., at Newton Heath and was awaiting collection in September 1939. It was taken on charge shortly after by 612 Squadron at Dyce and coded 'WL-X'. On an unknown date it was transferred to 48 Squadron at Hooton Park and moved with them to Stornoway on 24th July 1941. On 20th October 1941 this unit ceased operating Anson MkI's so it was transferred to 6 (C)OTU at Thornaby. As a result of the damage on 12th January 1942 the damage was probably minor and resulted in Cat.R/FA damage with a probable repair in works but there is no mention of this in the published history. The aircraft next appear on charge with 1 (O)AFU at Wigtown where it served until being lost without race over the Irish Sea on 4th October 1943.
