On 11th September 1942 the pilot of this 2 (C)O.T.U. aircraft landed at Catfoss airfield but forgot to lower the undercarriage. The aircraft sustained serious damaged and after inspection it was deemed beyond repair.
Beaufighter EL331 was built to contract B.65570/40 by The Bristol Aeroplane Co. Ltd at the Old Mixon shadow factory and was awaiting collection in August 1942. It was delivered new the same month to 2 (C)OTU at Catfoss and as a result of this accident on 11th September 1942 Cat.E2/FA damage was recorded following the inspection. It was written off.
