Hudson AM700 at Thornaby airfield.

On 27th September 1942 this No.6 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft was slightly damaged after it swung on landing at Thornaby and crashed. After assessment it was repaired.

Hudson AM700 was built to B.P.C. Contract A-1749 by Lockheed Vega at Burbank California. It was delivered by ship to the UK in June 1941 and after acceptance at 24 MU it was issued to 53 Squadron at Bircham Newton on 12th July 1941. It was transferred to 224 Squadron at St.Eval on 31st December 1941 and went back to 53 Squadron on 24th January 1942, who were based at North Coates. It moved to 225 Squadron on 18th February 1942 then went to 224 Squadron on 9th March 1942. It then went to 608 Squadron on 26th July 1942 then to No.6(C)O.T.U.. It suffered Cat.Ac/FA damage on 27th September 1942 and was repaired on site. It was returned to No.6 (C)OTU charge on 18th February 1943 but then went to 279 Squadron on 14th March 1943. It then went to 5 (C)O.T.U. on 6th August 1944 and was finally struck off charge on 5th March 1945.
