Spitfire AB919 was built to contract B.981687/39 by Vickers Armstrong's Ltd. at Castle Bromwich and was delivered to 45 MU at Kinloss on 10th August 1941. On 30th October 1941 it was taken on charge by 316 Squadron at Church Stanton but it was damaged on 28th November 1941 sustaining minor Cat.A damage. It was repaired on site, on completion of repair it was transferred to 610 Squadron an Leconfield on 22nd December 1941. On 14th January 1942 it moved with 610 Squadron to Hutton Cranswick. As a result of the damage sustained on 17th January 1942 it was initially inspected and the most serious Cat.E/FA damage was the assessment. The damage must have been bad but the aircraft must have been reasonably intact as on 20th May 1942 the airframe was removed to AST Ltd. at Hamble for further assessment. They rebuilt it over a period of eleven months and when complete it emerged as a Seafire Mk.Ib NX918 on 8th April 1943. The aircraft was placed on the RNDA (Royal Naval Deposit Account) 20th May 1943 it was flown to the Lee on Solent Storage Section. In May 1943 it was taken on charge by 748 Squadron F.A.A. at St.Merryn. In February 1944 it appears to have been unwanted by them as it was flown to Hamble Storage Section, on 27th June 1944 it was taken on charge by 761 Squadron F.A.A. at Henstridge. It remained here but nothing more is known of the aircraft after January 1945.
