Spitfire AB901 at Hutton Cranswick airfield.

At 15.00hrs on 26th January 1942 this 610 Squadron aircraft landed at an angle to the runway at Hutton Cranswick airfield, ran off the runway into snow which then saw the aircraft swung around and the undercarriage to collapse.

Pilot - P/O Douglas Owen Collinge RAFVR (114724).


Douglas Collinge was awarded the DFC for service with 610 Squadron, Gazetted on 20th November 1942. He was killed on 21st April 1943 while serving with 610 Squadron flying Spitfire BL731. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
