During the night of 23rd / 24th September 1942 this unidentified 405 Squadron aircraft was being used on operations to bomb submarine docks at Flensburg. It took off at 00.17hrs from Pocklington but outbound flew slightly off course. The crew released their bomb load over flak and searchlight positions and made for home but the aircraft received minor flak damage, damage was caused to the rear turret where two ammo belts were damaged and further flak holes were created in the aircraft. The crew landed in the early hours, believed to have been at Pocklington but the time is unreadable in the 405 Squadron records. Unfortunately the 405 Squadron orb in 1942 is quite probably the worst orb ever created. Most of it is blurred or the ink so faded that it is unreadble, the scribe did not list the aircraft used operationally by serial number and only listed it by the squadron code so working out what aircraft was what even if the squadron code can be read is difficult. In this case the squadron code cannot be read; it could be "H", "K" or "X".

Air Gunner - P/O Arthur Monson Greene RCAF (J/16009).
For some reason the CWGC database listed Arthur Greene's surname as GREEN and gives the wrong service number of "R/16009" when his non-commissioned service number was R/65371.
