Unidentified aircraft damaged at Church Fenton airfield.
At 18.20hrs on 15th January 1942 the 54 Operational Training Unit record book states that an aircraft was damaged at Church Fenton when the pilot overshot the runway and deliberately swung the aircraft off the runway to avoid an obstruction. The incident is briefly recorded in the unit ORB and nothing else is yet known about what happened.
Pilot - Sgt Frederick Patrick O'Brien RAFVR (1292258).
F/Sgt O'Brien was killed on 21st May 1943 flying Beaufighter R2184 with 29 Squadron. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
