Wellington Z1279 at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield.

At 11.00hrs on 23rd September 1941 this 458 Squadron aircraft was parked at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield when it was struck by a contractor's steam roller, the aircraft sustained damage to the port elevator and was soon repaired. The contractor was held to account for careless driving.

Wellington Z1279 was built by Vickers Armstrong Ltd and was received by 45 MU at Kinloss on 3rd September 1941. It was taken on charge by 458 Squadron on 16th September 1941. The incident on 23rd September 1941 does not feature on it's AM Form 78. On 10th February 1942 it was transferred to 300 Squadron. On 31st May 1942 it received minor Cat.Ac/FB battle damage. It was repaired on site and returned to 300 Squadron on 4th July 1942. It was then transferred to 305 Squadron on 6th August 1942. It received minor Cat.Ac/FB battle damage on 2nd September 1942 and was repaired on site to be returned to 305 Squadron on 10th October 1942. It was lost on 1st November 1942 when it failed to return from a mine laying operational flight. The then crew were never found. Cat.Em damage was recorded on the aircraft's paperwork.
