Leopard Moth X9383 near Askern, Doncaster.
On 11th August 1941 this aircraft crashed into trees during the take-off run following a force-landing in a field near Askern,
Doncaster, the aircraft was badly damaged.
Pilot - Name unknown.
This aircraft was built by De Havilland at Hatfield and first registered on the civilian register as G-ADCO to The Airwork School
of Flying at Heston Airfield on 20th February 1935. A week later it was deemed airworthy and the Certificate of Airworthiness was issued
on 27th February 1935. It was first registered to Birkett Air Services Ltd. at Heston on 6th December 1935 and operated by them as an air
taxi until being flown to 6 AACU at Ringway on 27th March 1940 where it was impressed into the RAF as X9383 on 31st March 1940. The
registration G-ADCO was cancelled with CAA on 27th May 1940. On an unknown date the aircraft was flown to North Coates for use by 6 AACU.
As a result of the incident neat Askern on 11th August 1941 Cat.E/FA damage was initially recorded but it was dismantled and transported
by road to D.H.Ltd. at Witney for further assessment where it was deemed beyond repair and Cat.E1/FA was recorded on the paperwork, it was
struck off charge on 23rd August 1941.
