Wellington W5592 at Lindholme airfield.
On the night of 26th / 27th September 1941 this 305 Squadron aircraft was used on an operational flight to bomb Cologne. The crew took off from Lindholme at 19.25hrs and related their bomb load from 19,000 feet over the target area. At 01.45hrs on 27th September 1941 the aircraft was about to make a night landing in ground fog at Lindholme airfield when the engines cut out on the approach due to fuel shortage. A heavy landing resulted and the undercarriage collapsed.
