Wellington W5591 near Lindholme airfield.

On 16th October 1941 the pilot of this 305 Squadron aircraft was flying back to Lindholme in poor weather from Binbrook where the Marconi radio company had modified the equipment on board. As it approached base to try and land at 21.10hrs the pilot mis-judged the approach, the aircraft crashed, caught fire and later burnt out. A haze over the approach may have effected the pilot's judgement.

Wellington Z5591 was built to contract B.71441/40 by Vickers Armstrong's Ltd. at Weybridge. It was received by 23 MU on 1st July 1941. It was taken on charge by 305 Squadron at Lindholme on 22nd July 1941. As a result of the crash on 16th October 1941 Cat.E2/FA Burnt damage was recorded and it was struck off charge on 24th October 1941.
