On 14th October 1941 this No.6 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft had just taken off from Thornaby when, at 21.40hrs, it stalled and crashed near Newsham Hall, to the north-east of Newby village (between Middlesbrough and Stokesley). Sadly all five airmen on board were killed. The wreckage caught fire and the aircraft was destroyed.
Hudson T9409 was purchased by the British Purchasing Commission direct from Lockheed-Vega at Burbank, California without contract. After delivery to the UK in May 1941 it was flown to 12 MU on 4th July 1941 and wa sthen taken on charge by No.6 (C)OTU on 24th July 1941. Cat.E2/FA damage was the damage assessment following the crash near Stokesley on 14th October 1941 and the aircraft was struck off charge.

P/O Ken Swann, photograph kindly provided by Ms Rosemary Thorburn, of Dunfermline, and a relation of P/O Swann. Ken Swann received a commission on 31st August 1941 to the rank of P/O on probation.
The grave of F/O Dimmoock in Thornaby Cemetery. He was granted a short service commission in the RAF and took the rank of Acting P/O on probation on 23rd October 1939. He received his commission to the rank of P/O on probation on 18th May 1940 and was confirmed as P/O on 14th August 1940. He then rose to F/O on 18th May 1941.
