On 24th August 1941 this No.6 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft swung wildly on take off from Thornaby causing trainee pilot to lose control. The aircraft crashed and burnt out
within airfield boundary.
Pilot - Sgt Jack Brigham RAFVR (903458).
Crew - Names unknown.
Hudson T9348 was purchased from Lockheed-Vega at Burbank, California by the British Purchasing Commission and after shipping to the UK was received by 20 MU on 14th August 1940. It was issued to 206 Squadron at Bircham Newton on 8th September 1940. It was later transferred to 407 Squadron on 13th June 1941 but was transferred to No.6 (Coastal) Operational Trainiing Unit on 8th August 1941. It was written off with Cat.E2/FA damage being recorded following the incident at Thornaby on 24th August 1941 and was struck off charge five days later.
