Hudson T9298 at Thornaby airfield.

On 7th September 1941 this No.6 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft crashed just off the north east side of Thornaby airfield and it was slightly damaged.

Pilot - Name unknown.

Hudson T9298 was purchased by the B.P.C. directly from The Lockheed Corporation, at Burbank, California and was shipped to the UK arriving at The Lockheed Assembly Division (UK) Ltd. at Speke in July 1940. After assembly and testing it was flown to 10 MU on 26th September 1940. It was taken on charge by 206 Squadron, based at Bircham Newton, on 10th October 1940 where it served until being transferred to No.1 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit at Silloth on 2nd July 1941. This unit ceased operating Hudson's on 19th July 1941 so the aircraft was then transferred to No.6 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit at Thornaby on 22nd July 1941. As a result of a minor accident on 7th September 1941 at Thornaby Cat.A/FA damage was the probably damage assessment. It received a Cat.Ac/FA damage assessment on 27th March 1942 and was probably repaired on site. The aircraft's AM Form 78 appears to have a gap in it because it reads that it was not returned to the unit until 11th April 1943. On 25th June 1943 it went to 29 MU. On 28th May 1944 it went to the Empire Central Flying School but on 24th July 1944 it was deemed in need of a repair on site by 67 MU. The aircraft was re-assessed at a later date and given Cat.E damage that then saw it struck off charge on 27th July 1945.
