Tiger Moth T7414 (?) near Harrogate.

On 3rd September 1941 the crew on this 20 E.F.T.S. aircraft were undertaking a training flight when, for reasons unknown, they were trying to make a precautionary landing in a field near Harrogate but the aircraft stalled, crashed and it sustained serious damage. The two airmen on board escaped serious injury. In the Air Britain books detailing RAF service histories this aircraft was never on the books of 20 E.F.T.S. but the entry of the damage was found in the 20 E.F.T.S. ORB listing the serial number.

Pilot - Sgt D W Fraser RAFVR (996019). Uninjured.

Passenger/Pupil - Name unknown. Uninjured.

This aircraft's history is not well documented. Tiger Moth T7414 was built to contract 20916/39 by The Morris Motor Car Company Ltd. at Cowley and was awaiting collection in January 1941. It was taken on charge by 1 EFTS at Hatfield shortly after this but must have been transferred to 20 EFTS at Yeadon later in 1941 but the record in Air Britain does not mention this. As a result of the damage on 3rd September 1941 Cat.B/FA damage was assessment, it was dismantled and transported by road for repair in works at an unknown factory. When the repair was complete it was issued to 11 EFTS at Perth/Scone and served with them until the unit was re-designated 11 RFS on 18th March 1947. The aircraft was placed into MU storage on an unknown date and was struck off charge on 21st August 1951 as sold for scrap.
