Wellington W1491 damaged in the air, landed at Snaith airfield.

On the night of 5th / 6th August 1941 this 150 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb Frankfurt. The crew took off from Snaith at 22.30hrs and flew the sortie without incident until they began to near base. The aircraft suffered an engine failure in the air and the propeller was not feathered. Eventually the propeller broke off, in coming away from the aircraft it spun into the fuselage and cut a hole in it. The pilot managed to remain in control and landed at Snaith safely at 05.45hrs.

The pilot was later awarded the DFC and also the Bar to the DFC for service with 150 Squadron.
