Hampden P1297 at Finningley airfield.
On 12th September 1941 this 25 Operational Training Unit aircraft overshot the flarepath during a night landing at Finningley and collided with Hampden P1222 that was on a dispersal point. Both aeroplanes received minor damage.

Hampden P1297 was built to contract 773239/38 by Handley Page Ltd, at Radlett and was awaiting collection in December 1939. It was received by 8 MU on 2nd December 1939 and was taken on charge by 25 O.T.U. at Finningley on 27th March 1941 a few weeks after the unit formed. As a result of the incident on 12th September 1941 minor Cat.A/FA damage resulted. A repair on site was carried out and it resumed being used by 25 O.T.U.. The aircraft was transferred to 16 O.T.U. at Upper Heyford on 23rd November 1941. It sustained minor Cat.Ac/FA damage on 17th December 1941 that was repaired on site. On 24th April 1942 it crashed at Trismore, Oxfordshire. Cat.E2/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was written off.
