Hampden P1222 at Finningley airfield.
On 12th September 1941 25 Operational Training Unit Wellington P1297 overshot the flarepath during a night landing at Finningley and collided with Hampden P1222 that was on a dispersal point. Both aeroplanes received minor damage.

Hampden P1222 was built to contract 773239/38 by Handley Page Ltd. at Radlett and was awaiting collection in September 1939. The aircraft was initially received by 24 MU on 28th September 1939 and was placed in MU store. It was taken on charge by 25 O.T.U. at Finningley on 6th April 1941. On 25th June 1941 it received Cat.Ac/FA damage in a flying accident when it overshot on landing at Balderton. As a result of a flying accident on 12th September 1941 at Finningley minor Cat.Ac/FA damage resulted again. After both incidents the damage was repaired on site and it was returned to 25 O.T.U.. The aircraft was transferred to 16 O.T.U. at Upper Heyford on 7th December 1941 where it was slightly damaged to Cat.Ac/FA on 7th April 1942. The damage was repaired on site and it was returned to 16 O.T.U.. On 4th August 1942 it was transferred to 5 (C)O.T.U. at Turnberry. On 29th December 1942 this unit moved to Long Kesh. On 18th January 1943 it struck the sea and was then ditched off Dubh Artach lighthouse, Argyll and Bute. Cat.E damage was recorded on the paperwork and it was struck off charge on 31st January 1943.
