Tiger Moth N6812 near Stainburn, Wharfedale.
On 15th October 1941 the trainee pilot of this 20 E.F.T.S. aircraft lost control while he was practicing gliding turns and the aircraft entered a spin. He was
unable to regain control of the aircraft before it hit the ground but the precise location of the crash site is not known (by this researcher when
the webpage was created) but it is believed to be in the Stainburn area, near Pool in Wharfedale.
The aircraft was built to contract 778402/38 by The
De Havilland Aircraft Co. Ltd. at Hatfield and was awaiting collection in May 1939. Exact dates are missing from its recorded history. It was initially
taken on charge by 12 E&RFTS at Prestwick during 1939 but the date is not known, on 3rd September 1939 this unit was re-designated as 12 EFTS and it was
then transferred to 20 EFTS on an unknown date in 1941. As a result of the crash at Stainburn Cat.E2/FA damage was the result.
Pilot - LAC Edgar Charles Prytherch Lloyd RAFVR (1293920), of Swansea, Wales. Slightly injured.
Edgar Lloyd completed his training and was later posted to 50 Squadron in Bomber Command. On 8th July 1944 Sgt Lloyd was flying on Ops to bomb the
