Blenheim K7170 at Church Fenton airfield.

On 24th August 1941 this 54 O.T.U. aircraft was parked on a dispersal point at Church Fenton airfield when it was struck by Blenheim L6603 and destroyed. The photograph shown above is believed to be Blenheim K7170.

Blenheim K7170 was built to contract 43506/35 by The Bristol Aeroplane Company Ltd. at Filton as a bomber version. On 4th February 1938 it was taken on charge by 61 Squadron at Hemswell but on 22nd March 1939 it was flown to 27 MU at Shawbury for storage then on 17th December 1939 it was flown to 20 MU at Aston Down where the aircraft was placed into storage for ten months. On 10th October 1940 it was taken on charge by 6 RMU at Biggin Hill, four days later this unit was re-designated as 6 RSS. On 1st March 1941 it was allocated Debden airfield just prior to 52 OTU forming on 25th March 1941 when the aircraft was taken on charge by this unit. On 31st May 1941 it was transferred to 60 OTU at Leconfield then on 2nd July 1941 it was transferred to 54 O.T.U. at Church Fenton. As a result of the collision on 24th August 1941 at Church Fenton Cat.E2/FA damage was recorded and the aircraft was written off.
