On 29th August 1941 a 608 Squadron aircraft landed at Thornaby where upon the undercarriage collapsed. There were no injuries report and the aircraft was later repaired. Its identity is, as yet, unknown but it carried the squadron code "-J". Upon searching through the Hudson movement cards (AM Form 78) AM688 received a damage assessment by No.43 Group Damage Assessors on 29th August 1941, it may well be that this aircraft damaged at Thornaby but normally such No.43 Group DA visits came some days after the event.
