At 00.30hrs on 15th August 1941 Pocklington airfield was attacked by a lone enemy aircraft, indendiary bombs were dropped on and around a maintenance hanger and high explosive fell on fields just off the airfield boundary. The 405 Squadron diary records that there was no damage or no casualties sustained however for incendiaries to fall onto a hanger there must surely have been slight damage. Mike Usherwood records in his superb book on Pocklington airfield that on this raid one aircraft was slightly damaged by the enemy action while parked in the hanger. The identity of the aircraft is not known but it must have been built by Vickers Aircraft Ltd at Weybridge.
