During the afternoon of 23rd August 1940 this 64 Squadron aircraft was one of three being taxied around Leconfield prior to taking off from a sector recce flight when a cross wing caught the aircraft and it tipped onto it's nose.

Spitfire X4032 was built to contract B.19713/39 by Vickers Armstrong's (Supermarine) Ltd. at Eastleigh and was first test flown on 29th July 1940. On 1st August 1940 it was flown to 12 M.U. at Kirkbride and on 15th August 1940 it was flown to 6 M.U. at Brize Norton. It was then taken on charge by 64 Squadron on 17th August 1940 who were based at Kenley at the time who then moved to Leconfield two days later. as a result of the minor damage sustained at Leconfield on 22nd August 1940 Cat.M/FA damage was the assessment and it was repaired on site. During the morning of 27th September 1940 Sgt Leslie Arthur Dyke flew the aircraft on a sector patrol over the North Sea, unfortunately the aircraft and he were lost. He has no known grave. Cat.W(m) damage was recorded on the aircraft's paperwork.
Alec Lindsay was killed on 23rd October 1942 when 185 Squadron Spitfire EP685 crashed on Malta after being shot down by "friendly fire". He is buried in the Naval Cemetery at Cappauccini, Malta.
