Hurricane V7384 at Leconfield airfield.

On 24th October 1940 this 303 Squadron aircraft landed downwind at Leconfield at 18.20hrs following a formation flying exercise with two other aircraft. It overshot the runway and came to rest through the boundary hedge.

Pilot - F/O Marian Pisarek PAF (P.1381)


On 7th September 1940 Marian Pisarek was shot down flying Hurricane R4173 of 303 Squadron. He baled out and landed unhurt. The aircraft crashed in the back garden of 40 Roding Road, Loughton, Essex. He was killed on 29th April 1942 leading the Northolt No.1 (Polish) Wing when Spitfire BM307 was shot down by an enemy aircraft over Hardelot, Pas de Calais. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Polish Air Force Memorial at Northolt.
Hurricane V7384 was built to contract 62305/39 by Hawker Aircraft Ltd at the Langley factory. It was flown to 20 MU at Aston Down on 19th August 1940. Six days later it was taken on charge by 56 Squadron at North Weald but may not have ever been received by them as on the same date it was transferred to 151 Squadron, also at North Weald, who had probably suffered losses that required replacements. On 29th August 1940 it moved with this unit to Stapleford Tawney. On 11th September 1940 it went to 13 MU at Henlow Camp and then on 16th September 1940 to 22 MU at Silloth. On 11th October 1940 the aircraft was then taken on charge by 303 Squadron at Leconfield and crashed there on 24th October 1940. Cat.M/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was repaired on site. On 3rd January 1941 it was then transferred to 253 Squadron at Leconfield with this unit moving to Skea Brae on 10th February 1941. On 23rd August 1941 it went to 13 MU at Henlow Camp for a repair in works. On 8th October 1941 it was taken on charge by 52 OTU at Aston Down and was then transferred to 56 OTU at Sutton Bridge on 22nd November 1941. This unit moved to Tealing on 27th March 1942. On 25th June 1942 it caught fire in the air and was abandoned to crash near Colinsburgh, Fife. Cat.E2/FA Burnt damage was the damage assessment and it was struck off charge having clocked up 461 flying hours from new.
