Whitley T4131 at Dishforth airfield.
At 21.55hrs on 25th October 1940 the crew of this 78 Squadron aircraft was in the process of taking off from Dishforth airfield to undertake an operational flight to bomb the Reisholz oil refinery at Dusseldorf when the Whitley struck the flare path tender and also a floodlight. Members of the flare path party had set up the lighting incorrectly and had not lit the obstructions. Two other Whitleys belonging to 51 Squadron were damaged taxying at Dishforth on this same date.
