Tiger Moth N9175 at Brough airfield.
On 16th October 1940 this 4 EFTS aircraft struck an obstacle at the edge of the aerdrome at Brough after landing. The aircraft sustained minor damage and was repaired on site as there is no mention of it on the aircraft's movement card. It survived the War and was scrapped on 28th March 1950.
Pilot - LAC Denis Hill Wood-Samman RAFVR (1182157).
This pilot's life is well documented elsewhere on the internet. He was born in July 1918 in Belfast and was educated at Sedbergh School in Yorkshire. During the war he served as a flying instructor in Canada where he later emigrated to. He died in June 2004.
Tiger Moth N9175 was built to contract 778402/38 by DeHavilland Aircraft Co. Ltd, at Hatfield and was awaiting collection in August 1939.
After a lengthy period of MU storage it was taken on charge by 6 CPF at St.Eval on 15th January 1940 when the unit formed. 6 CPF disbanded
on 27th May 1940 and the aircraft was passed on to 4 EFTS at Brough shortly after this date. On 16th October 1940 it is believed to have sustained
Cat.R/FA at Brough (as recorded above). From here it is believed to have been repaited in works then placed into MU storage. On 13th September 1941
it was taken on charge by 29 EFTS at Clyffe Pypard when the unit formed. Details after this date are sketchy. It is known to have been with
1 FTS at Spitalgate in 1947 before transfer to 3 FTS at Feltwell also in the same years. It was finally struck off charge and scrapped on 30th March 1950.
