Whitley N1504 was built to contract 75147/38 by Armstrong Whitworth Ltd, at Baginton and was awaiting collection on 28th February 1940. After a period of MU storage it was taken on charge by 51 Squadron in May 1940 at Dishforth when the unit began converting from Whitley MkIV's to Whitley Mk.V's. On 7th October 1940 it sustained Cat.R/FA damage when it made a wheels-up landing at Yeadon airfield. It was repaired on site and returned to 51 Squadron. On 25th January 1941 it sustained Cat.A/FA damage when the undercarriage collapsed on landing at Dishforth. It was again repaired on site and returned to 51 Squadron. By the end of March 1941 'N'-serial Whitley's had been withdrawn from front line operational flying. This aircraft was transferred to No.2 Beam Approach Training Flight at Linton on Ouse. On 14th April 1941 it moved with the unit to Driffield. On 31st October 1941 this No.2 B.A.T. Flight was re-designated No.1502 B.A.T.Flight. It was damaged in a crash at Driffield on 11th November 1941, receiving repairable Cat.B damage. The aircarft was taken by road to S.S. Cars Ltd at Coventry for repair on 21st November 1941. In 1942 it is recorded as being with 19 O.T.U. at Kinloss where it served until 19th August 1943. On this date it was involved in a Cat.B/FA accident when it swung on take off at Kinloss and the undercarriage collapsed. Details of any repair is not known in it's history but by August 1944 19 O.T.U. had ceased operating Whitley's. The last known record of the aircraft is on 27th September 1945 when it was struck off charge and broken up and returned to produce.
