Whitley N1501 was destroyed by the enemy action at Driffield airfield on 15th August 1940 while it was parked and bombed.
Whitley N1501 was built to contract 75147/38 by Armstrong Whitworth Ltd. at Baginton. After a period of MU
storage it was taken on charge by 77 Squadron at Driffield during April 1940, replacing N1357 which had been
shot down by a Dutch fighter when it strayed into Dutch air space on 28th March 1940. n1501 was destroyed on
15th August 1940 in the raid on Driffield with Cat.W damage recorded.
Another Whitley following the bombing raid, the aircraft on this photograph remains unidentified.
