Magister L5924 at Driffield airfield, damaged by enemy action.
In the early afternoon of the 15th August 1940 around thirty enemy aircraft attacked Driffield airfield, Magister L5924 was
one of the aircraft damaged in the bombing and it was struck off charge on 22nd August 1940.
Magister L5924 was built to contract 706883/37 by Phillips & Powys Ltd. at Woodley and was
delivered to 1 FTS at Leuchars on 9th July 1937. On 8th September 1937 it transferred to the
Station Flight at Driffield. On 15th August 1940 it was caught up in the bombing of Driffield and initially given
Cat.R damage as a result of the splinter damage. On 22nd August 1940 it was re-assessed on site and
declared beyond economic repair and struck off charge.
