Battle K5014 was built to contract 540408/36 by The Austin Motor Co. Ltd at Longbridge and delivered to 19 MU at St.Athan on 13th March 1939. It remained in long term storage until being issued to 235 Squadron at Manston on 24th December 1939 but was the allocated to 242 Squadron based at Church Fenton five days later but they did not operate Battles at this stage in the War. 242 Squadron reformed at Church Fenton on 30th December 1939 as a fighter squadron with Blenheim MkIf's, converting to Hurricane MkI's in January 1940. It was soon issued to 3 B&GS at Aldergrove on 11th January 1940 however it almost certainly never left Church Fenton and probably remained there for gunner-training purposes with 242 Squadron. Following this mishap detailed above Cat.M/FA damage was recorded and it was repaired on site. On 11th April 1940 it was issued to 141 Squadron at Grangemouth and then transferred to 5 OTU at Aston Down on 17th May 1940. It then transferred on paper to 20 MU also at Aston Down on 11th September 1940. It was sent to The Austin Motor Co. Ltd. at Longbridge on 6th November 1940 for repair (although no detais of such damage is known). From here it was selected to go overseas, it went to a Packing Depot, 47 MU at Sealand on 13th November 1940 and transferred to the South African Air Force as "932" on 5th February 1941. It later transferred for use in the Middle East on 30th January 1943 but nothing more is known of its long-term fate.
