Incidents in Yorkshire - January 1940.
This list contains all known aircraft accidents and mishaps in Yorkshire during the months of 1940. Many incidents in this
period were on and around airfields and only minor damage was sustained in the main. This was also before many of the airfields were a
solid surface, the early grass runways were still being used.
A small number are contained on the main section to my website and are linked in accordingly.
It will be seen that as the War progressed the monthly losses rate increased dramatically. Battle damage aircraft returning to airfields in the County are also included, some were further damaged on landing, some however
were able to return and make good landings. Both such endings are recorded here and detailed accordingly.
Swordfish P4223, which crashed towards the Northern end of the Peak District is often refered to as a "Yorkshire" loss, it is not included here as it infact crashed in Cheshire and
is now still not in Yorkshire even with the boundary changes forty years ago.
