During the evening of 21st March 2011 this aircraft left Blackpool airport at 19.18hrs with
one passenger flying with the pilot, they were planning on a flight to Kirkby Lonsdale and were
to fly over Clitheroe before landing. The only details found to date have been those as reported
in local newspapers. They reported that visibility over the south-western side of the Yorkshire Dales
on this night was poor and the pilot became lost. He attempted to circle the area for some time but the aircraft
flew into high ground on the south east slopes of Ingleborough at around 20.30hrs with both on board
sustaining serious leg injuries. The pilot was able to contact Blackpool and give them details that
they had crashed but could not give a detailed location, rescue teams were called out and initially it
was thought the aircraft may have crashed in the Howgills but later search teams were re-directed to the
Inglebrough area. The rescue party later reported visibilty to have been down to ten feet in the area at the time.
The crashed aircraft was found just after midnight by members of Clapham cave rescue on Ingleborough Moor, near
Gaping Gill and both men were taken by strecther down to Trow Gill. Both men were taken to the Royal
Lancaster Infirmary where it was found that both had suffered from double broken ankles.
The aircraft was built in 1981 and had sustained damage in an accident at Caernarfon Airport, Gwynedd on 16th October 2009.
