On 1st November 1944 an unidentified Tiger Moth aircraft is mentioned in police records as being damaged following a forced landing at 16.00hrs at East Crossthwaite Farm. The farm is on the opposite side of the River Tees to Middleton in Teesdale. Slight damage was reported to the aircraft but the pilot was not injured. The aircraft has yet to be identified. I assume the forced landing was made in a field next to the river rather than on the rougher moorland above the farm.
