Unidentified aeroplane on Stainmore.

On 14th March 1923 this civilian operated aeroplane set out from Carlisle for a long flight down to London when it was landed in the Brough area where the the three male occupants spent the night. The reason behind the long flight is not known. During the afternoon of 15th March 1923 it took off from Brough but soon after leaving the ground the engine began to fail. It was force landed on a hillside in the area of Stainmore but unfortunately overturned causing injuries to two of the men on board. The aircraft was later dismantled on site and transported to Kirby Stephen to be taken by rail for possible repair. Exactly where this incident is not known nor are any other details.
