Slingsby T.41 Skylark BGA.1002 glider at Sutton Bank.
On Wednesday, 1st May 1968 this glider was in the process of taking off from the Sutton Bank gliding site when the launch sequence failed and it crashed around 100 metres after leaving the ground. Sadly the pilot was killed as a result of the accident.
Pilot - Mr Alan Ray Mitchell. Aged 45, of Barwick in Elmet, Yorkshire. Burial location unknown.
This glider was initially registered as BGA.918 and given it's certificate of airworthiness in March 1960. It crashed at Dunkeswell on 30th October 1960 but was re-built and given it's certificate of airworthiness in June 1961. It was re-registered as BGA.1002 before crashing at Sutton Bank in 1968.
