Fire at Carlton Moor gliding site.
1962 was a busy year for Newcastle Gliding Club who were operating at the Carlton Moor gliding site. In Summer 1962 they had built a new hanger at Carlton Moor. On 18th October 1962 a Slingsby Sedbergh glider was
blown over in a ground accident killing their chief flying instructor. Two weeks after this fatal accident a fire destroyed their temporary club-house, two privately owned gliders and four trailers, the identities
of the two gliders are not yet known. If it was two weeks after 18th October 1962 it would put the fire in the first week of November 1962 but a search of local newspapers has failed to yield more details.
