Auster 6A G-ARGI at Sutton Bank gliding site.

Believed to have been on 29th July 1963 this aircraft was landing at the strip at Sutton Bank and touched down normally on the grass strip, the pilot applied the brakes too sharply and the aircraft tipped up onto it's nose possibly coming to rest upside down. It may have been used as a glider tug aircraft.

Auster G-ARGI was originally on the military register as VF530, it was first registered on the civilian register to Peter Severn Lamb on 8th December 1960 of Severn Lamb Limited, based at Stratford on Avon, Warwickshire. He later sold it and on 12th September 1961 was registered to Anyont Bernard McNulty and Howard Christopher Clark Greenway. Following the mishap at Sutton Bank it was repaired. It was later used by the Doncaster and District Gliding Club from 1967 to 1971 and by a group based in the Keighley area briefly in 1973. While owned by Maurice Kirk of Taunton, Somerset it was permanently withdrawn from use on 23th August 1977 but its tubular framework was in store at Doncaster in 2011.
