Unidentified Slingsby T.21b Sedbergh glider at Carlton Moor.
On Thursday, 18th October 1962 a strong wind was blowing over the Carlton Moor gliding site. One of the gliders was not tied down so one of the gliding club members attempted to get into the cockpit
to assist with weighing it down. Unfortunately the wind caught the glider before he got himself strapped in, it overturned. He was seriously injured and while he was transported to the Sheffield Lodge
Moor Hospital he died as a result of the injuries sustained. He was the Chief Flying Instructor at the Newcastle Gliding Club who used the Carlton Moor site. The identity of the glider is not yet known but it was repaired and was in use again in January 1963.
