On 17th December 2016 this Gyrocopter was flying in the area around the northern edge of the Lake Disrict when it suffered a bird strike. The airframe began to shake violently until the propeller blades broke off. At 10.45hrs while attempting to force land the aircraft the gyrocopter then struck power lines and crashed into a field near Branthwaite in a field near Branthwaite Beck, in the Caldbeck Common area. The two people flying in it sustained injuries and were taken to hospital via the Great North Air Ambulance,
