In early September 1931 a Supermarine Southampton was landed on Derwent Water and remained there for a number of days. I have yet to locate any proper information to say why the aircraft was landed there and also whether any damage resulted. A basic newspaper report transcript passed to me by Mike Hurst states that the crew were undertaking survey work in the area at the time and that it later "returned to Oban". No Southampton operating squadrons were ever based at Oban from what I can tell. I would welcome additional information.
