On 8th March 2011 this helicopter was being flown from the pilot's place of work at Honister Pass to his house south of Cockermouth. The aircraft had just taken off
at just after 19.00hrs from Honister, it was dark and the weather was poor. The AAIB investigation was very detailed but could not establish any definitive cause of the
crash other than the pilot lost control, the only conclusive thing they found was that the pilot was not qualified to fly the aircraft at night. This incident is well
detailed elsewhere on the internet and I see no point in duplicating this here. A memorial cairn now marks the site of this accident.
Pilot - Mr John Henry Mark Weir, aged 45. Killed.
