During the morning of 14th February 1943 this No.10 (O)A.F.U. aircraft took off for the crew to undertake a map reading exercise. The exercise was due to have been carried out over low ground
but the aircraft left this area and flew into high ground which must have been shrouded by low cloud at the time. The aircraft is believed to have crashed in the area of Grisedale
Pike, possibly on the northern spur around Hobcarton End though nothing has yet been found of the aircraft despite a number of failed searches by me. The only location known is that of "Hopton near Keswick" and as no such place exists obviously locating the site is hard.
