Swales SD3-15T BGA.2305 at Windermere.
On Sunday, 18th May 1980 this glider was being flown at 5,000 feet over the Windermere area at which time the pilot was also looking for a suitable place to land. A athletics track was selected in the Birthwaite Road area and after the glider had descended to just 100 feet above the ground the pilot decided against landing there as the area was too small. The pilot made a right turn and attempted to land on a field but the approach had houses on it as well as some trees. The glider struck trees with the wings level but then fell tail first to the ground and was badly damaged. The field selected and/or where the crash occurred on was probably the edge of a golf course as this appears to be the only potential landing site near the athletics track.
On the same date the Countess of Arran made a water speed record attempt on Windermere.
