Peter Connon records this incident in his superb book "In the Shadow of the Eagle's Wing, An Aeronautical History of the Cumbria, Dumfries and Galloway Region, (Part 2, 1915 to 1930)". On 2nd September 1916 this aircraft broke up in the air on approach to land at the Hill of Oaks flying site at Windermere. The wreckage crashed into the lake and the pilot was sadly killed. Further internet searches suggest a second person survived the incident and his name is also listed below.
