Master II W9013 near Fraisthorpe.

Just prior to this flight a problem vibrating with this Central Gunnery School aircraft once airborne was reported by another pilot after he landed. On 26th July 1945 it was flown on an air test with the Station test pilot at the controls and a fitter travelling as a passenger to attempt to identify the problem. At 5000ft the pilot began to make some violent manuevures to try and repeat the reported issue. A loud bang was heard so pilot descended rapidly but at 500 feet the aircraft rolled inverted and dived into ground. The location is probably near Fraisthorpe even though the CGS record book gives a vague location of being "near Driffield". Both airmen were injured badly.

Pilot - P/O David Kenneth Waters RAFVR (130414). Seriously injured.

Passenger / Fitter - Sgt Frederick Thomas Hillier RAF (614582). Injured.
